Introduction to Board Chairs Academy

Thinking about signing up for Board Chairs Academy but want to learn more? Join us for a preview of this unique online learning and community-building experience for nonprofit board members.

Board Chairs Academy presents six learning modules associated with evolving a nonprofit board, using a three-part process. Each module begins with a 90-minute online presentation accompanied by a participant guide of handouts, readings and exercises. Concepts are then applied through the completion of specific assignments over a two-week period. Each module concludes with a second 90-minute online session that provides a brief review of the topic, invites discussion about the assignments, and uses small and large group interaction for participants to share their learning.

Organizations may enroll up to three or up to six participants for the series. Organizational registration also includes three hours of complimentary board consultation by a Third Sector Company Senior Advisor, 150 pages of resource materials for each participant, access to six Board Chairs Academy Roundtables for additional discussions with other Academy participants, and access to a private LinkedIn Group.

Individual registrants may sign up either for the full series or for individual modules.

  • Class #25 sessions are presented on Wednesdays as a Lunch & Learn, January to June 2021, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM Pacific Time

For more detail about each session, view the Fact Sheet. The Board Chairs Academy is a cohort learning program introduced by Third Sector Company in 2006. Over 400 organizations have participated in the United States and Canada.

Third Sector Company, Inc. is committed to advancing diversity, inclusion, equity, and access as foundational to its programs. We acknowledge and honor the fundamental value and dignity of all people; and we pledge our individual and organizational efforts to build respect, dignity, caring, and equitable treatment for all. As an organization, we are committed to transforming the world into one that promotes social justice and freedom from oppression, including but not limited to, racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, and ableism. Thus, we aim to be adaptable, actively anti-racist, embracing cultural differences, and to be accessible for people who are differently resourced and differently abled. Since we do not want financial hardship to be a barrier to participation, there are several seats reserved in each of our fee-based programs for confidentially awarded scholarships. We encourage those from historically underserved communities to apply.
